OPEN CALL - THE CLUNKER

Are you an artist?

Do you coincidentally have a lot of free time with not a lot of money?

Have you occasionally consumed items from those so called ‘vending machines’?

Then boy (girl?) - do we have an ‘opportunity’ for you!

We are looking for a variety of artists to exhibit alongside one another in a vending machine format, each able to have their work on display for sale.

This will primarily begin in Norwich, Norfolk - the machine then making a tour around the country to a number of other locations (TBC) Each artist will need to design their contribution to a vending machine friendly size - no bigger than a bottle of soft drink or chocolate bar*. These could be prints, mini-sculptures, or any object that would suit presentation to a wide public of all ages. Dependent on the size of the work, we would be looking for artists who could contribute multiples or a selection of works to keep the machine stocked and more engaging to audiences. These do not necessarily have to be ‘copies’, they can be as diverse as the artist wants them to be.

Dependent on the success and variety of submissions, there may be a chance to exhibit the machine for a more mature audience as things develop.

If the artist chooses to take part after their submission is accepted - they will be required to pay a contribution towards the upkeep of the machine and initial marketing costs - which will be no more than £20 per person. (another smaller fee may be required again in the future for continuing the exhibit in other locations) - this contribution will either be processed through paypal or cheque/postal order.

This financial contribution will secure the artist a singular ‘shelf’ or purchase code (e.g D2). If an artist wishes to exhibit a variety of items on different shelves then this can be arranged, with each additional shelf requiring a further £20 initial fee. The fee will also go towards a website where each artist will have a link to their own personal website and other links. This will also include a regular blog and update service.

Artists will receive a photographic and written receipt via email for the artworks we receive - each contributor being updated on a weekly basis with regards to sales, and stock levels.

The machine will be monitored by one of our team on a very regular basis to make sure it is both working correctly and that the money/stocks of artworks are collected and maintained. Our location in Norwich will be The Playhouse Bar - where the crowd is predominately fun local drinkers and art students.

All profits will go towards the artist with no commission kept - due to the nature of the exhibition and sales however it may take a couple of weeks to receive payment which can either be sent via post, bank transfer, or postal order (the charges of a postal order will be the responsibility of the artist who requested it.) As it is a vending machine, the cost of each artwork cannot be too high - with a maximum of £10 per item (Minimum of £1)

If the initial exhibition of the machine is deemed a success there will be an opportunity for it to be shown in the highly popular Norwich and Norfolk festival - an event which lasts over a month and receives thousands of visitors.
